Why do Denver snow forecasts change so much?

Upslope snow depends on the exact wind direction and the position of the low pressure centre. Small shifts move the zone of strongest lift and change local totals substantially, which is why the morning check matters here.

Does the calculator know the school's elevation?

It uses the coordinates you select, so the forecast reflects that point. It does not model an individual campus's elevation or the grade of its access roads, so treat foothills conditions as more severe than the plains number.

Are spring snowstorms less likely to close schools?
